Rhode Island MBB's Home-and-Home Series vs. Alabama - My Likes and Dislikes
After hearing the news of a home-and-home series vs. Alabama, it was only right that I highlight my likes and one dislike about this scheduling move.
Likes:
1. Alabama is a team that is expected to be a top-25 team headed into the 2017-2018 season. It helps to build upon a team that had mild success during the prior season when you bring in two top-100 kids in Collin Sexton and John Petty. I see no foreseeable way that Avery Johnson's team hurts Rhode Island's resume for the next two seasons.
2. The Crimson Tide's top three performers in the last season were guards Braxton Key, Dazon Ingram, and Riley Norris. Even with the additions of Sexton and Petty, the Rhode Island Rams will have the backcourt to go toe-to-toe with this opposition.
3. Dan Hurley will be able to learn early on what he has to work with in the upcoming season when his team faces off against this SEC basketball team.
4. This competitive scheduling transaction shows that Rhode Island wants to get back to the NCAA tournament for years to come.
5. If Alabama is willing to schedule a home-and-home series against the Rams, then more power conference teams should be willing to do the same.
Dislikes:
1. Avery Johnson got over on Dan Hurley by having the Crimson Tide's home game in the series be in the one season when Collin Sexton will electrify college basketball.
Ultimately, this is a great scheduling move by Dan Hurley and his staff. Both teams should be expected to benefit this for the next two seasons.
