An Attendee Watches URI Give Belmont the Business on Black Friday
I would be a clown if I failed to mention that this was the first game that Rhode Island's basketball team was featured on the NCAA March Madness Snapchat story, a huge national audience. During their 2 minutes or so of Stanford Robinson's walk-through of the Rhode island locker room and the Ryan Center, I learned many things with the rest of the nation:
1. Stanford's real name is "Stan Ross the Boss".
2. Nicola Akele is a boss from Italy.
3. Andre Berry "likes it in all kinds of flavors".
4. URI keeps their jerseys "fresh".
5. They eat many kinds of granola bars and drink a lot of water.
6. The bathrooms "get dirty sometimes".
Now, moving into the game, this was as classic a URI basketball game as I have continually seen in Kingston. The game was close throughout thanks to Rhody's defense and they pulled it out late, 82-73, despite looking ready to choke several times.
As an attendee, I learned with the rest of the crowd that Belmont is garbage juice without their star player Evan Bradds, they have a bunch of tall, lanky kids who can all shoot 3's and play no defense, and URI basketball is a bigger priority in Rhode Island than late night Black Friday shopping.
