An Attendee Watches Rhody Wack a Willy-Nilly William & Mary
Brought to you by another fantastic 144p, 2 frame per second live stream, I paid close attention to the Rhode Island Ram's final game of the non-conference schedule. Even with a victory in this game, the Ram's would only accrue a mediocre 8-4 non-conf record.
URI remained in control of this contest throughout, off the back of their defense that forced 16 William & Mary turnovers and 23 points from #0. Causes for concern going forward from the squad from Kingston have to be their poor 39% shooting from the field, including going a measly 25% from beyond the arc as a team. When the Rams lead was trimmed down to a slim 4 point margin late in the second half, Jared Terrell came up with a big steal and assist to E.C. Matthews for an easy layup and all momentum was back with the Rams to close out. Another positive to note that must be mentioned is the 17 rebounds that Cyril Langevine collected out of the team's 41 rebounds. For those wondering, Langevine will be the next Hassan Martin. You can teach a lot of skills on the basketball court but the high motor and hustle that Langevine continually exhibits shows his desire to win.
Like most games against weak opposition, E.C. Matthews dominated in URI's solid 73-62 victory. Which begs the question, when the lights are shining bright, where does Matthews go? Throughout the non-conference schedule, there was 1 solid performance in a big game against Cincinnati and he looked like Terio in all other big non-conf games. I now fully understand why E.C. told Jeff Goodman in his game at Mohegan Sun this season that thinking about the NBA is now out of his mind. I agree, can you say D-LEAGUE with me? While E.C. Matthews possesses every ability he needs to be a star in the NBA, he is held back by his insanely high dribble and a fear to take the big shots in big games. The Romulus high alum MUST elevate his game if the Rams still plan on making the tournament this season. I for one really hope that Matthews lives up to the hype and the billing.
As seen throughout the night's broadcast, the 5 William and Mary fans who traveled with the team, looked as displeased as William and Mary in their first ever Instagram picture.
