An Attendee Watches URI's OLD Habits

You know your game is hot fire when the game is being broadcasted by ASN ... not. How about broadcasting this game on ESPN? No. ESPN 2? No. ESPN 3? No. ESPNU? No. CBSN? No. We couldn't even get the URI - Old Dominion game on NBC Sports network, talk about taking 10 steps back. Well, in other matters, URI would be playing Old Dominion in a hostile environment, considering that at the time, the Monarchs had the 4th longest home winning streak in college basketball to date. This would be no easy task as well with E.C. Matthews already sidelined for the entire year and Rhode Island going up against C-USA star talent in Aaron Bacote and Trey Freeman.

But NA, as a loyal URI fan, I knew we had it all the way. Another solid nonconference win was on the win, with E.C. or without E.C. Well, how about an injury to URI's best big man by far, Hassan Martin? This was an insurmountable obstacle for little Rhody. What looked like a shoe tied way too tight on my television screen was actually a severe ankle injury that would leave the Staten Island native's services on the bench for the next 5 games. OH SHIIIII, this game was a lost cause.

Um no, URI still had plenty of talent left over surely!? Yea, false hope makes nothing but fool's gold. URI looked like they just wanted to go home and they did after an embarrassing defeat 71-65, on the road once more. The only highlights of the game were Jared Terrell and Aaron Bacote receiving simultaneous technical fouls for SMILING at one another and URI's full court press giving them a glimmer of hope before that small light quickly became a dark hole. But HEY, Go Rhody right?

About a URI Attendee

Hi, I attend URI basketball games religiously. I am also a pessimist. These 2 facts do not always mix cohesively. Read my articles to see why.
