Bizarro World - If Dan Hurley Left Rhode Island MBB
One day, there will come a time when there is a great possibility that Dan Hurley leaves the Rhode Island Rams for a job with a school from a "power conference". As a result, I got to thinking about what those potential destinations would be and their likelihood.
Seton Hall: Dan Hurley's alma mater could come calling one day when Kevin Willard falters.
Likelihood: Likely
Rutgers: After the 2015-2016 season, the Scarlet Knights came calling to try to entice Hurley to coach their team in the Big 10 but he stuck by Rhode Island. Rutgers would be a future destination only if they start winning a lot more and bring in better talent.
Likelihood: Unlikely
Pittsburgh: Playing in the ACC is enticing and Dan Hurley has had a huge amount of success in the in the city of Pittsburgh throughout his career.
Likelihood: Likely
St. John's: The Red Storm wanted Dan Hurley to come over and replace Steve Lavin around the end of March in 2015 but Hurley turned them down and signed a contract extension with URI.
Likelihood: Unlikely
Clemson: Clemson has good training facilities, home arena, and an above average home crowd yet they have had immense struggles with winning in the ACC. Given recruits with the talent of past players like Jaron Blossomgame, Hurley would do well with this school.
Likelihood: 50-50 chance
Georgetown: If Patrick Ewing falls flat on his face early on with the Hoyas, the administration will try to find a coach that they believe can bring their program back to a Final Four (like in 2007). Dan Hurley would be a future target in this given scenario.
Likelihood: 50-50 chance
Penn State: Playing out of the Big 10, Penn State has made the Big Dance just nine times in the program's history. When they start taking basketball more seriously, they will want someone like Dan Hurley to take over.
Likelihood: 50-50 chance
Ohio State: Thad Matta is becoming physically incapable of coaching college basketball anymore as he has told the media. Dan Hurley is the type of head coach that a historic program like Ohio State needs.
Likelihood: Likely
Nebraska: Nebraska is the only major conference program to have never won a single game in the NCAA tournament. The Cornhuskers have just seven tournament appearances all time, including one in 2014. Since aligning with the Big 10 in 2010, Nebraska has been extremely inconsistent and Tim Miles is sitting on the hot seat now. Dan Hurley could replace Miles and coach the team that he helped to upset - Nebraska came into the Ryan Center as the #21 team in the country and lost to URI on November, 22, 2014.
Likelihood: Unlikely
As of now, hopefully Dan Hurley remains as the head coach for Rhode Island MBB for a long period of time.
