A 2017 Rhody Baseball Status Update: 4/2/17

Conference record: 5-0
Home record: 4-0
Neutral record: 2-3
Road record: 8-7
Key injuries: Ben Wessel tore his UCL on January 27, 2017 - He wrote a depressing message on his unfortunate injury when it happened. Wessel was on the Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team in 2016 when the team won the Atlantic 10 championship.
Tyler Wilson, the team's clear #1 pitcher, is out for the entire season with a labrum injury. Wilson was a 2017 consensus preseason All-American (2nd team) coming into this season. Also, before the season began, he was ranked as the Atlantic 10 Preseason Pitcher of the Year by multiple baseball outlets, #65 on Baseball America's list of the Top-100 college prospects for the 2017 MLB Draft, and #74 on D1baseball.com's list of the Top-100 college prospects for the 2017 MLB Draft. In the 2017 season, he had a 1-1 record and an uncharacteristic ERA of 5.82.
Key players to keep an eye on going forward: Jordan Powell, Martin Figueroa, Chris Hess, Michael Corin, and Matt O'Neil - These upperclassmen all need to continue to lead their offense to victories if this team is to be successful.
Nick Johnson and Matt Murphy - These two junior starting pitchers need to produce better with Ben Wessel and Tyler Wilson both done for the season.
Overall, Rhode Island baseball is currently on the right track to reclaiming the Atlantic 10 title.
