Rhody Baseball is Underrated and Underappreciated

The bleachers at Bill Beck Field leave something to be desired but the Rhode Island baseball team does not get enough fans for a group that is fresh off an Atlantic 10 championship. In the spring weather, barring a rainout, people need to sit on the grass or lean against the fences and cheer on the Rams. At the end of the day, cheering for Rhode Island's baseball team beats rooting for the school's horrific football team. I personally much rather get a sunburn as I watch a contending baseball than a failing football team that has not had a winning record in the past 15 seasons.

In the 2017 season, the home attendance numbers have been pathetic, to be frank. At home on March 21, 2017, 76 people attended the 6-4 victory versus Sacred Heart. Next, Rhode Island dominated Quinnipiac, 15-5, in a home game on March 30, 2017 and there only 109 people to witness the dominance. Shortly thereafter, in a doubleheader at Bill Beck Field versus Saint Louis, 128 people showed up for the first game and 115 people stayed for the second game. Keep in mind, the Rams defeated the Billikens in both of the games.

To anyone that is currently reading this, join me at Bill Beck Field from now on, whenever Rhode Island's baseball team is playing their home games. Home crowds win games in any sport and the baseball team based in Kingston, RI could use your support. In addition, traveling with the team and supporting them on the road is not as hard as one may think. When putting Rhody's support in baseball into perspective, many of their games are located in the Northeast. Thus far, they have already at Northeastern (in Massachusetts), at Bryant (in Rhode Island), and at Saint Bonaventure (in New York). Going forward, the team has remaining road games at Hartford (in Connecticut) and at UCONN.

Currently, the Rhode Island baseball team sits at 16-13 overall, with a conference record of 6-2. This is a winning team that needs a crowd to consistently support them.

About a URI Attendee

Hi, I attend URI basketball games religiously. I am also a pessimist. These 2 facts do not always mix cohesively. Read my articles to see why.
