A Close Look in at Mo-Alie Cox - A Ram Turned into a Colt

As a Rhode Island men's basketball fan, Mo-Alie Cox was not someone that I particularly wanted to see on the basketball court. Let's be honest, no one wants to see the best players on the opposing basketball team step on to the court and face the team that you root for. Ironically, I look forward to seeing Mo-Alie Cox step on to many football fields in the upcoming NFL season. Yes, you read that correct. Cox will be making his large presence felt on football fields, all around the NFL in the 2017-2018 season.

As an unbiased college basketball fan, it was not hard to root for a well-spoken individual like Mo-Alie Cox. The 6'7", 250-pound big man played like a tight end or linebacker in the paint during his four years of college basketball. He was a recipient of all Atlantic-10 defensive team selections in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Therefore, there is little to no surprise that Cox will be donning the blue and white colors of the Indianapolis Colts next season. His strong catching ability, large frame, and tremendous strength gives him the tools necessary to bypass having to start his professional football career in the Canadian Football League or the Arena Football League.

As a lifetime Indianapolis Colts fan, I am excited to see how this transition goes. Offensively, the Colts have their franchise quarterback in Andrew Luck and they have constantly surrounded #12 with offensive weapons like Frank Gore, T.Y. Hilton, and Donte Moncrief. However, just like in the days of Peyton Manning, the franchise has had difficulty with building a consistently healthy and performing offensive line. Cox brings Luck and his offense value when it comes to offering protection in several run and pass schemes. Andrew Luck gets hit way too much for a young, franchise quarterback. Defensively, the Colts have always had obvious weaknesses, even when they won a Super Bowl against the Chicago Bears. I would not say that it is out of the question to have the VCU alum add to the depth of the defensive line or linebacker corps.

All in all, I wish Mo-Alie Cox the best in his NFL career, especially while he is an Indianapolis Colt.

About a URI Attendee

Hi, I attend URI basketball games religiously. I am also a pessimist. These 2 facts do not always mix cohesively. Read my articles to see why.
