Initial Reactions to Amir Harris' Commitment to URI

Everyone knows that E.C. Matthews, Stanford Robinson, Jarvis Garrett, Andre Berry, and Jared Terrell will be graduating at the end of this season. No one knows how many of the total allotted scholarships will be given to guards. As of now, two guards have taken two of the five scholarships. In addition to the commitments of Dana Tate and Tyrese Martin, Amir Harris has now committed to URI (as of September 17, 2017).

As a sophomore in high school, it is clear how Harris attracted attention on a national scale. He's extremely tall for the point guard position, plays stellar defense, and does well finishing at the rack. Do Rhody MBB fans see a trend with guards like Jeff Dowtin, Tyrese Martin, and now Harris? Many college basketball guards like to pride themselves on being "bucket getters". Amir Harris looks like what I will deem as a "steal getter". This kid will fit in perfectly into Dan Hurley's defensive system.

In the one-minute highlight video from his play at the Hoop Group Spring Jam Fest, you can see each element of his well-rounded game. Clearly, he is not lightning but his movements are swift enough to drive through traffic, without many obstacles along the way. In addition, he's quick to the ball, which is key when it comes to a payer's IQ (particularly for a guard). Moreover, his vertical leap to grab rebounds will be extremely difficult for other Atlantic 10 point guards to fend off.

Now, all of the Rhode Island MBB fan base waits patiently to see if URI can land Brendan Adams and Jermaine Harris (both from the DMV area). If you need to see all of that speculative talk about the Rams potentially landing Adams and Harris, don't forget that my Twitter is @LoveRI401.

About a URI Attendee

Hi, I attend URI basketball games religiously. I am also a pessimist. These 2 facts do not always mix cohesively. Read my articles to see why.
