Initial Reactions to Brendan Adams' Commitment to URI
It is currently October and the upcoming college basketball season is yet to start. Even with that being said, Rhody MBB has already grabbed some Ws. The Rams completed their recruiting class of 2018 over this past weekend and they are now built to win in the future.
For those not well versed in following the bloodlines of college basketball, Brendan Adams is the younger brother of Saint Bonaventure's Jaylen Adams. Jaylen Adams is the near unanimous preseason favorite to win the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year award. As Rhody MBB fans, everyone has seen the headaches that the elder Adams caused with his scoring ability. Going forward, we can all hope for the same from the younger Adams brother. Time and time again, everyone in the college basketball world will draw comparisons between the two brothers.
Adams looked a lot his older brother at the 2016 UA Holiday Classic.
It is going to be best for Atlantic 10 defenders not to jump at the rack when Adams elevates or he could end their life (not literally), like he did at the Capital Hoops Fest.
A mental lapse on the defensive end at 1:30 in this video is the type of play that Adams needs to eliminate from occurring.
Brendan Adams brings great court vision to a team that will be in need of that attribute, going forward. Without Jarvis Garrett running the point and Jared Terrell bringing his strong presence to the backcourt, Dan Hurley needed a guard exactly like Brendan Adams. After Terrell leaves, Rhody MBB desperately needs someone that can score in isolation and they have that in Adams. The guard from Hanover, Maryland has the ability to score with his jumper or on the drive. Given his scoring ability at the point guard position, Brendan Adams has the versatility to play both guard positions.
I will not go so far as to say that the Rams now have a "Fab 4" but they certainly have a top 25 recruiting class for their 2018 group. When Amir Harris was still committed to URI, the recruiting class ranked as the 15th best in the nation, according to 247 sports. After the commitments made by Jermaine Harris and Brendan Adams, the Rhode Island MBB fan base should be more than please about the future.
