An Attendee's Review on Rhody MBB's Non-Conference Play
Rhody MBB's 2017-2018 non-conference results:
84-60 win vs. UNC-Asheville - Solid opening win against the Big South favorite
88-81 loss at Nevada - URI's first true road game showed their initial flaws and they couldn't stop Jordan Caroline or the Martin twins
88-66 win vs. Holy Cross - Absolute destruction over a team that didn't belong on the same court as URI
75-74 win vs. Seton Hall (neutral court) - HUGE, HUGE, HUGE win over one of the best teams in the country (and Dan Hurley's alma mater). This is the most significant win on Rhody MBB's resume and it will keep rewarding them.
70-55 loss vs. Virginia (neutral court) - This game against a dominant Virginia team fully exposed URI's flaws with their four guard and one big lineup. Isaiah Wilkins ate Stanford Robinson alive.
86-62 win vs. Brown - Another massive blowout over an inferior opponent
75-68 win vs. Providence - After seven long seasons, Daron "Fatts" Russell shouldered the load to put URI at the top of Ocean State college basketball.
68-64 loss at Alabama - A huge letdown for me personally and an unforgettable night of biased commentary by the SECN commentary team, questionable officiating, and a mere 35.2% FG shooting from URI.
68-62 win vs. Charleston - A "way too close" victory over the CAA favorite, good thing Jarrell Brantley didn't play in this contest
80-74 win vs. Iona - Another tight win that was pulled out thanks to the 23 points provided by Jared Terrell
80-60 win vs. Florida Gulf Coast - The E.C. Matthews that needs to show up every night was present in the Ryan Center on December 27, 2017. If #0 plays every game like he did vs. FGCU, it is almost impossible for the Rams to lose.
All things considered, URI should be content with the results that they produced in non-conference play.
