Some of Rhody MBB's Failures in the 2017-2018 Season

In the extremely successful 2017-2018 season for Rhody MBB, the Rams took part in some comical, embarrassing, and damaging failures.

To start the season, the Rams were overwhelmed by Nevada's Jordan Caroline and the Martin twins.

URI trying to defend Virginia's Isaiah Wilkins in the NIT Season Tip-Off championship game was brutal.

Before going on a 16-game winning streak, the Rams lost at Alabama, even though star freshman Collin Sexton barely played and the Crimson Tide turned the ball over 24 times.

Matt Mobley unleashed one of the most vicious posters on E.C. Matthews' face during the Saint Bonaventure at URI game.

At 30:00 in the following video of the Duquesne at URI game, Jared Terrell missed a dunk because he dunked the basketball against the side of the rim.

At 1:05:18 in the following video of the URI at UMass game, E.C. Matthews missed a dunk because he dunked the basketball against the side of the rim.

Jeff Dowtin and E.C. Matthews failed to connect on two alley-oops vs. Davidson.

With 13:22 remaining in the second half of the URI at Saint Bonaventure game, Cyril Langevine gave Stanford Robinson a concussion when both players collided as they were going for a defensive rebound.

With 1:50 remaining in the game in Olean, NY and the Bonnies trailing by three points, LaDarien Griffin out-hustled four Rams for an offensive rebound off of his own shot.

When URI played at Saint Bonaventure, Cyril Langevine left Griffin wide open in the paint with 20.5 seconds left and Griffin slammed the game-winning dunk down.

During a blowout win at home versus Dayton, E.C. Matthews threw an errant pass when he tried to link up with Jared Terrell on an alley-oop with 3:48 left in the second half.

Playing vs. Saint Joseph's, Jeff Dowtin tried a "jelly" layup and missed while his team was down 22 points in the second half. Clearly, Dowtin is not part of the "jelly fam" and he could have been less flashy to secure the two points.

On URI's 2018 Senior Night, they were utterly embarrassed by losing at home by 30 points to a mediocre Saint Joseph's team. Their loss was the worst way to send their senior class off and many of the loyal Rhody MBB fans left before the game even ended. In fact, according to CBS Sports, the home loss to Saint Joe's on February 27, 2018 was the second largest home loss by a ranked AP team against an unranked opponent.

URI choked away a 61-55 lead at Davidson while possessing the basketball and going to the free throw line with under a minute of game time remaining. "Batman and Batman" missed three free throws while their team was in the bonus (on three different trips to the line) and trying to seal the win.

In the Atlantic 10 championship game, E.C. Matthews was completely stopped on an isolation play (with 10.9 seconds remaining in the game and trailing by one) so he passed the ball to Jeff Dowtin, who shot an air ball on a three-pointer that had no chance of going in. Matthews had his drive attempts stopped by Kellan Grady (a freshman at the end of the day) and Dowtin took the jumper with about three seconds still left in the game.

Rhody MBB was absolutely embarrassed and destroyed by Duke, 87-62 in the second round of the 2018 NCAA tournament.

About a URI Attendee

Hi, I attend URI basketball games religiously. I am also a pessimist. These 2 facts do not always mix cohesively. Read my articles to see why.
