Reacting to Rhode Island and Oklahoma MBB's First Round Preview Press Conference

I LOVE March Madness and one of the parts that I love about it (which goes under the radar) are the press conferences that come before and after each game. On the morning of March 14, 2018, the Rhode Island Rams and Oklahoma Sooners had their first round preview press conference (both videos are included in this article) and I have my reactions here.

Oklahoma MBB's press conference:

Everyone has to respect the humble responses that Trae Young provided. Beside all of the attention being on Young like always, the Oklahoma MBB press conference was a slumberfest.

Rhode Island MBB's press conference:

I could not help but laugh when I saw that URI brought all five of their seniors to their first press conference. While the conference was progressing, it was clear that Rhody MBB may have had the best press conference of the first round. If nothing else, the five seniors did not lack anything in bringing amusement and entertainment to the table. The 3:40 mark when E.C. Matthews told a female reporter that Andre Berry and Jarvis Garrett needed to answers questions was pure comedy. In addition, the 5:54 mark was comedic relief to all of the serious questions because there is no conceivable way that a NCAA tournament team is going to give away their defensive strategy before their big game. Then, at 10:24 in the video, Andre Berry told a reporter from Tulsa, Oklahoma to "Google it" when he asked about what Oklahoma MBB fans should know about Rhode Island basketball.

It was clear how much trust each of the players have invested into Dan Hurley after Jarvis Garrett spoke about the amount of trust that they had in their head coach staying in Kingston, RI over the years. Additionally, the older players in college basketball surely have to admire the sentiments that Stanford Robinson laid out when it came to veteran college basketball players that go underappreciated.

By and large, E.C. Matthews and Stanford Robinson were the class clowns and Jared Terrell served as the voice of reason. All in all, there were nothing but smiles by the players around the table and that is what this process is all about. During March Madness, the goal is to capture a national championship and have fun all along the way.

About a URI Attendee

Hi, I attend URI basketball games religiously. I am also a pessimist. These 2 facts do not always mix cohesively. Read my articles to see why.
