Rhode Island MBB's 2018-2019 Rotation - Splitting Up the Minutes
In the 2018-2019 season, the Rhode Island men's basketball team will still have an abundance of talent; they just need to find enough minutes for everyone to get in each game and contribute. Consequently, I decided to try to help split up the minutes. (The (rounded) minutes per game are based on mathematical calculations, as well as the minutes that each player should average when David Cox uses his standard lineups.)
Jeff Dowtin: 30 minutes per game Reasoning - Jeff Dowtin must oversee this team as the floor general of the team.
Daron Russell: 30 minutes per game Reasoning - Russell has Atlantic 10 player of the year potential and he needs to shoulder a bulk of the scoring load during each game.
Cyril Langevine: 30 minutes per game Reasoning - Langevine is the one returning interior presence that played significant minutes last season.
Nicola Akele: 24 minutes per game Reasoning - Akele will need to excel at all of the intangibles for a team that is significantly younger this season.
Christion Thompson: 24 minutes per game Reasoning - Christion Thompson is a good fit to spell Dowtin and Russell when necessary and Cox does not lose too much, as a result.
Michael Layssard Jr: 14 minutes per game Reasoning - Michael Layssard Jr. stretches the floor offensively and he is an improving defender. Layssard Jr. has the talent to be in the starting lineup.
Michael Tertsea: 10 minutes per game Reasoning - "Big Mike" is a tower in the paint that opposing offenses will have trouble trying to score on. His role could increase, depending on the progression of his conditioning.
Ryan Preston: 12 minutes per game Reasoning - Preston plays as a stretch four that can give quick spurts of aggression and energy off of the bench.
Jermaine Harris: 22 minutes per game
Reasoning - The top-100 talent has the ability to completely affect the game on both ends of the floor and his usage could continue to increase throughout the season.
Dana Tate: 22 minutes per game
Reasoning - Tate's use as a combo forward will come in handy to a variety of lineups that David Cox will need to employ.
Tyrese Martin: 5 minutes per game
Reasoning - Martin can contribute on the defensive side of the ball such as in a full court press/trap situation.
Omar Silverio: 7 minutes per game
Reasoning - Silverio could see playing time when the team needs a bucket from beyond the arc and he is a viable option at the free throw line.
Will Leviton: 0 minutes per game Reasoning - He knows how to do bench celebrations well.
Eric Dadika: 0 minutes per game Reasoning - He knows how to do bench celebrations well.
