Should Hassan Martin Have Made the 2018-2019 Boston Celtics Roster?

During the Summer of 2018, Hassan Martin spent his time playing in the 2018 Summer League with the Boston Celtics. In his first 2018 Summer League game against Philadelphia, Martin did not get into the game until the fourth quarter but he ended up scoring the game-winning free throw (put the Celtics up 88-87) and bringing the late game heroics. As a whole, he scored eight points (3-3 FG and 2-2 FT), including two AMAZING and-one plays. Also, he grabbed two rebounds (both offensive) and forced one turnover.

Next, Hassan Martin had eight points (2-2 FG and 4-6 FT), seven rebounds, four turnovers, and one block in 17 minutes of the Boston Celtics' second Summer League game. As a starter in the C's third Summer League game, Martin scored 12 points (4-8 FG and 4-4 FT), grabbed six rebounds, and turned the ball over once in 22 minutes of game time.

In the first round of the 2018 Summer League tournament, the Staten Island native came off the bench and put up 8 points (3-7 FG and 2-2 FT), six rebounds, one assist, one block, one steal, and one turnover in 18 minutes. In the following round of the 2018 Summer League tournament, Hassan Martin came off of the bench again, on his way to eight points (3-8 FG and 2-2 FT), six rebounds, two turnovers, one steal, and two blocks.

Lastly, in the Boston Celtics' final Summer League of 2018, Martin played a team-high 31 minutes after coming in as a reserve. In his time on the court, he scored 16 points (5-8 FG and 6-6 FT), grabbed nine rebounds, assisted on one basket, turned the ball over twice, and swatted one opposing shot.

Jabari Bird's signing to the Boston Celtics roster was deserved and expected, as he was arguably the best player on the Celtics' Summer League roster. Besides Bird, Semi Ojeleye and Guerschon Yabusele played very well in their time in Las Vegas, as well. After those three players, Hassan Martin shined just as much as any other player on the team's Summer League roster. If Boston did not decide to surprisingly sign Walt Lemon Jr. to a two-way contract on July 25, 2018, there is reason to believe that Martin would currently be a Boston Celtic. By and large, Hassan Martin's 2018 Summer League performance warranted a roster spot on several NBA teams, including the Boston Celtics.

If the man pictured below keeps producing like he did this summer, then he will be a consistent presence in the NBA in the near future.
