Rhode Island MBB's Home-and-Home Series vs. Florida Gulf Coast - My Likes and Dislikes

After hearing the news of a home-and-home series vs. Florida Gulf Coast, it was only right that I highlight my likes and dislikes about this scheduling move.

Likes:

1. Florida Gulf Coast continually dominate their conference (the Atlantic Sun) and they will help the University of Rhode Island men's basketball team's resume, regardless of the outcome. In recent years, they have made it into the NCAA tournament in 2013, 2016, and 2017. Also, they have won at least 21 games in every season since their 2012-2013 campaign.

2. The FGCU Eagles should also be expected to do their part in their non-conference schedule, seeing as they just started a home-and-home series with Middle Tennessee State in the 2017-2018 season.

3. #DunkCity will get a rude awakening to Dan Hurley and his fierce defensive system.

4. The first game of the series is in the Ryan Center while seniors E.C. Matthews, Jared Terrell, Jarvis Garrett, Stanford Robinson, and Andre Berry are in their final year of eligibility.

5. This game helps both mid-major schools to build their fan bases and get put on the map, on a nationwide scale.

Dislikes: (Even as a pessimist, I have none)

Ultimately, this is another great scheduling move by Dan Hurley and his staff. I look forward to seeing what Hurley can continue to build on the scheduling front.

About a URI Attendee

Hi, I attend URI basketball games religiously. I am also a pessimist. These 2 facts do not always mix cohesively. Read my articles to see why.
